What kind of dish is this?

This is a Spanish dish of hardened bread rubbed with tomatoes and sprinkled with olive oil and salt.
It can be found in some areas, such as Catalonia.
This is a dish produced by Catalan farmers in the 18th century.

Name

Pan con tomate=bread with tomato

Olive oil and bread

In the second century BC, Roman rule began in Spain.
At this time, the olive oil manufacturing method, garlic, and wheat, the raw material for bread, were brought to Spain.

Tomato

Spain landed on the Americas in the 15th century.
One of the things that came to Spain at this time was tomatoes.
At first it was for viewing, but in the 18th century it was treated as edible.

Pan con tomate

Tomato cultivation became popular.
And tomatoes have come to be used in a variety of dishes.
As a result, the dried and hardened bread was rubbed on tomatoes to soften it.
And what was born is this pan conte mate.
This idea may have been born because Spain has a culture of reusing bread, such as frying hardened bread and making soup.
At first they ate with herring.
Mordern age, people eat not only tomatoes, olive oil and salt, but also rub garlic with vegetables, seafood, ham and omelets.

Thoughts

I made it from bread that I opened three days ago.
It depends on the quality of the ingredients, but this is good ♪
Moderately firm texture and tomato acidity, olive oil aroma and salt.
It was simple but delicious.
