What kind of dish is this?

This is a Turkish fast food that cooks meat marinated with spices in a unique way.
Eat cooked meat between pita bread.

Name

Doner=turn or rotate
kebab=roasted or grilled

History

The exact origin is not known, but in the 17th century, the oblong Rotary meat grill already existed.
The vertical Rotary meat grill has a picture taken in 1855.
In other words, by this time there would have been a doner kebab that had almost the same cooking method as it used today.
Is it for use in a limited space such as a food stall, or is it easy to collect the dripping gravy and sprinkle it on the meat?
For this reason, I think it came to be used vertically.

Spread

In the 1940s, it became a popular menu in high-class restaurants, and people who visited this restaurant spread it to various countries.
But, this dish is just fast food.
The stall owner can cook a lot of meat at a time.
Customers can easily eat it by sandwiching it in pita bread. In addition to its deliciousness, it is popular all over the world due to its simplicity.
※The Doner kebab became more and more recognized in European countries as a new fast food when Turkish workers opened a kebab stand at West Berlin’s Zoo station in 1972.

Others

Obviously, I don’t have a special cooker for doner kebab.
But! The Turkish Embassy had published a recipe for Doner kebab for home, so I made it with that recipe.
Not only delicious, sliced meat is easy to chew and eat.
I am very satisfied.

    However, the Association of Turkish Doner Producers in Europe (ATDID) connects the wide popularization of the dish to the stand of Turkish guest worker Kadir Nurman at West Berlin ‘s Zoo Station in 1972, which helped establish the doner kebab sandwich as a fast food option.
